Grace Online Church – The Truth About Fortune Tellers

See Through the Tricks

Many people today are tempted to turn to fortune tellers for answers about the future. But as Christians, we need to recognize that this can lead us away from the truth. Fortune tellers often claim to see the future or read minds, but the Bible warns us about seeking guidance from such practices. Instead, we should trust God and His Word for wisdom and direction.

In Leviticus 19:31, the Bible says,

This verse clearly tells us that seeking advice from fortune tellers or mediums goes against God’s teachings.

Fortune tellers use clever tricks to convince people that they have special powers. They often rely on general statements or observations that seem personal but apply to many people. It’s important to see through these tricks and not be misled by false promises.

By trusting in God, we can avoid the trap of seeking answers from fortune tellers. God’s plan for our lives is perfect, and He wants us to turn to Him in faith, not to deceptive practices. Remember, true wisdom comes from God alone, and by staying close to Him, we can see through the tricks and avoid being misled.

Bible Verses

1. Deuteronomy 18:10-12

“Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord.”

This verse clearly warns against practices like divination and consulting mediums, which includes fortune telling. It emphasizes that such actions are displeasing to God.

2. Isaiah 8:19

“When someone tells you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?”

This passage challenges the idea of seeking guidance from fortune tellers and mediums. Instead, it urges people to seek God’s wisdom.

3. Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

This verse reminds us that God has a perfect plan for our lives, and we don’t need to seek guidance from anyone other than Him, especially not from those who claim to predict the future.

4. Proverbs 3:5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

This verse emphasizes that we should trust in God’s wisdom and not seek answers from human understanding or fortune tellers.

5. 1 John 4:1

“Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”
