Begin the Year with Fasting: Seeking God with Purpose

As we step into a new year, we are reminded of the fresh opportunities God provides to seek Him with renewed purpose and vision. Pastor Howard Lindsay will be leading the Fast and Bible Studies. From January 13th to January 22nd, we will embark on a corporate fast, dedicating ourselves to prayer, fasting, and spiritual alignment. These ten days are an opportunity to establish a foundation for God’s plans in 2025. A schedule for corporate prayer will be released soon. Visit www.graceonlinechurch.com for more information. We encourage you to join us in unity as we seek God together.

The Power of Fasting

Fasting is more than abstaining from food; it’s a powerful act of surrender. By setting aside earthly desires, we open our hearts to hear God’s voice, draw closer to His presence, and align ourselves with His will. Throughout scripture, fasting has been a catalyst for breakthroughs, healing, and divine intervention. Beginning the year with fasting is particularly impactful. It demonstrates our reliance on God and prepares our hearts to receive His direction and blessings. Together, let us create space to hear Him and renew our commitment to walking in His purpose.

Steps to Prepare for the Fast

Preparation is key to experiencing the fullness of what God desires to do through this time. Here are some practical and spiritual steps to help you prepare:

  1. Pray for Guidance – Seek God’s direction about what type of fast He is calling you to (e.g., a Daniel fast, complete fast, or partial fast). Ask Him to prepare your heart for this sacred time.
  2. Set Clear Intentions – Write down your spiritual goals for the fast. Are you seeking clarity, healing, or a deeper connection with God? Let these intentions guide your prayers.
  3. Plan Your Fast – Decide in advance what you will abstain from and prepare accordingly. Stock your home with items that align with your chosen fast and remove distractions.
  4. Engage with Scripture – Select a Bible reading plan or devotional to accompany your fast. Let God’s Word be your strength and sustenance.
  5. Prepare Physically – Ease into the fast by reducing sugar, caffeine, and processed foods beforehand. Staying hydrated and balanced is essential.
  6. Join in Prayer – Commit to participating in the corporate prayer gatherings. These moments of unity strengthen our resolve and amplify the power of our prayers.
  7. Seek Accountability – Partner with another member of the Grace Family for encouragement and support. Community makes the journey easier and more meaningful.

The Power of Unity in Fasting

Imagine the spiritual momentum we can build when we come together as one family, seeking God’s will with humility and faith. This fast is not just about personal growth; it’s an opportunity to intercede for our families, our church, and the world around us. Together, we can break chains, shift atmospheres, and usher in God’s presence in extraordinary ways.

In Ecclesiastes 4:12, King Solomon speaks about the power of unity:
“A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.”

Prepare Your Hearts for Transformation

Let us embrace this sacred time with hearts wide open to God’s purpose. Prepare your hearts, mark your calendars, and get ready to experience the transformative power of fasting and prayer. We believe that God will do amazing things in and through us as we seek Him together. Commit to stand in faith and unity, and resolve that you will win!
