Overcoming the Fear of the Unknown with Faith
In this powerful fear of the unknown sermon, Elder Howard G. Lindsay teaches how believers can rise above uncertainty and trust God even when the future feels unclear. Many Christians battle fear, anxiety, or doubt when facing new challenges. This message reveals how God strengthens us, guides us, and calls us to walk confidently in faith.
What the Bible Says About Fear and Faith
Fear is one of the greatest obstacles to spiritual growth. Scripture reminds us repeatedly that God has already gone ahead of us:
- Numbers 13:25–33 – The Israelites saw giants in the land, but God had already promised victory.
- Isaiah 41:10 – “Fear not, for I am with you… I will strengthen you and help you.”
- 2 Timothy 1:7 – “God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.”
- Joshua 1:9 – “Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
These verses teach us that fear exaggerates threats, but faith sees God’s promises.
When Faith Feels Risky
Sometimes faith requires stepping into places that feel unfamiliar. Like the Israelites, we may see obstacles that look too big to handle. But Elder Lindsay reminds us that:
- Fear reshapes what we see
- Fear magnifies the enemy
- Fear makes us feel small
- Faith reveals God’s strength in our weakness
God doesn’t call us to stay where it feels “comfortable.” He calls us into the future He has prepared.
The Giants in Your Life Aren’t Bigger Than God
In the sermon, Elder Lindsay explains that the Israelites declared, “We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes.” Their fear wasn’t based on reality — it was based on their perspective.
The same happens today.
Fear tells us:
- “I’m not ready.”
- “I’m not enough.”
- “What if it doesn’t work?”
But God says:
- “I am with you.”
- “I go before you.”
- “I will never leave you.”
Faith shifts your vision from giants to God’s greatness.
Move Forward One Step at a Time
God doesn’t ask us to understand everything — only to trust Him step by step. Even in moments of uncertainty, God is steady, present, and faithful. When we surrender our fears, He guides our next steps with clarity, peace, and wisdom.
A Prayer for Overcoming Fear
“Lord Jesus, I want to trust You more.
I surrender the areas of my life that fear has controlled.
Give me clarity where I feel confused and peace where I feel unsettled.
Lead me into the future You’ve prepared.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Final Encouragement
The place God calls you to is safer than the place fear convinces you to stay. You are stronger than you realize, and God has already gone ahead of you.
Walk in faith.
Trust His voice.
And discover what God has prepared on the other side of fear.
